We met up in Andheri and rode/drove to Karnala. Thank you SP for the safe ride

Had a quick breakfast and headed up to the Bird Sanctuary – it was pathetic and sad to see the birds holed up in tiny cages. But the peacock put himself on display for us …… even the bedraggled feathers were a sight to behold. See for yourself.

Then came the surprise – The Trek! I knew at once that I was going to be in trouble. First I was NOT dressed for the hiker role (you will know soon what happens when you are not!) and I had not told SP that we were going hiking and was going to get grief for it

This is what we set our sights for – Karnala Fort.

20 minutes onto the trail I was so badly bitten you could have played a game of “Join the Big Red Spots” on me! Lesson to self – always check if there is going to be a tramp through the forest.

However, I enjoyed myself to the hilt, just a I always do on these trips. Here are some pictures from the trip

Our journey down was shorter that the up hill one, guess the basic needs of food and water came into play. We pigged out on yummy chicken, Kokam sherbat, rice rotis and skittles when we got back.

Although Ajay was a wee bit reluctant I decided to go ahead (steam roll him as usual) and plan a combined b’day party . Not sure how many of you know but we celebrate our birthdays on consecutive  days

The gang from SCMHRD came over – Sneha, Akshat , Neha, Arijit and Aditya (who flew in from half way across the country- Thank you so much for that), my friends and  family. We sure did have a ball.

We packed our bags and headed to Nandurbar on the Sharpline bus after picking up a whole lot of goodies. Nandurbar is about a 10 hour run by road from Mumbai and we arrived at our destination at 8:45 in the morning. Fr. Godfrey who is  incharge there came chuggin’ along in an autorickshaw to pick us up and escort us to  Jana Seva Mandal.

One of the initial things that you notice about  town is that it is a typical Indian town, with a lot of shops and various establishments and  does not look like a cut-off tribal area. However this is not the catchment area of the Jana Seva Mandal – who target the Adivasis who live about 40 to 60 kms in the interiors of the Taloda and Shahada districts.

After a good breakfast of eggs, bread and chai, Godfrey took us on a ‘grand tour’ of the place.  Apart from the main administrative building and the boarding for about 70 boys, the campus now boasts of  halls and restrooms that cater to large groups of individuals. We sat and chatted with him about the work he is doing and the plans he has for Jana Seva.  KJD  and I went for a botanical walk of sorts around the campus and had a poke around at the various plants and trees.

Lunch and a much needed rest followed. I spent some time by myself in the evening. The rest of the gang joined us in the evening and we headed to town for a while.  Had a hilarious dinner  and hit the sack – or tried too

Sunday morning saw us walking the kilometer to the house of one of the parishoners where morning mass was going to be celebrated.  It was the couple’s 21st wedding anniversary that day. It was really nice to see the community come together to celebrate the Eucharist. After mass in Marathi,  KJD  and Kenneth being ‘ordained’ and a lovely home made breakfast we walked down to the sister’s place. Sr. Lillian chatted with us about the work she is involved in and the herbal dispensary and course that they run.  We spent the morning setting up some computers and wi -fi connection.

We were due to leave in the night and then realised that the bus back to Mumbai left earlier in the evening! I spent the afternoon in a long heart to heart conversation – just the type I love We packed up and took the same rick back to the bus station.

I must say that the journey back was a lot more comfy We got in at around 5.30 in the morning. KJD, the gentleman as always,  dropped me home and I managed to get some sleep before I headed to work.

I had a lovely time on the trip (Thank You KJD) and am so looking forward to the next one

This prompted me to think along the 12 Days of Christmas lines while I was thinking of what to get Pri and Ryan for Christmas. So this is what I did.

For every day of Christmas (12 days) I left a gift under their tree corresponding to the day. These are what I thought of, you could think of other items to use as gifts.

First Day of Christmas – One potted plant
Second Day of Christmas – 2 handkerchiefs (one each)
Third Day of Christmas – 3 Magnets
Fourth Day of Christmas – 4 Candy Canes
Fifth Day of Christmas – A set of 5 boxes containing 5 exotic spices
Sixth Day of Christmas – 6 Chocolates
Seventh Day of Christmas – A comic strip wall hanging with 7 “Love Is” comics
Eight Day of Christmas – 8 marshmellows
Nineth Day of Christmas – 9 pieces of Christmas decoration for their tree
Tenth Day of Christmas – A set of 10 tea lights
Eleventh Day of Christmas – 11 handmade gift tags
Twelfth Day of Christmas – A CD with 12 love songs
