  • A Double Birthday Celebration

    2

I think having the person who means the world to you celebrate his birthday a day after yours makes your birthday twice as special.  After the initial “I don’t believe that its your birthday on the 15th”, we’ve settled into a nice routine for our birthday celebrations -Begin the day with mine and bring in his at midnight :)

    Two of us

This year too I had a party, though unlike last year I only invited a few close friends.  I haven’t been in my element of late coupled with the facts that my extended family was not in the city and that i had a fever and a runny nose a day before, did not make me a very enthusiastic party planner :(

Anyway here is what I did do this year :)

For the Invitations, I tried my hand at Iris Folding. Since I was having a sit down candle light  dinner, I used the wine glass template.

For the Dinner Table I decided to have a “Red and Glass” theme, so the candles, place mats, centre piece and serviettes were red and all the crochery – glass.

    The table

Snacks included biscuit shells filled with two tyoes of fillings – Deviled Eggs and Cheesy Chicken and potato chips with a Blue Cheese dip.

Dinner too was a home cooked affair (it becomes easier to cook for a smaller group of people) with Ceasar Salad and Grilled Chicken as the first course, followed by the main course of Macaroni-Cheese-Chicken Bake, Spinach Pie & Tomato Pulao.

Dessert was a lovely fruit trifle – which Ajay put together (good job!), followed by an after dinner liquor.

The cake  was made of dark chocolate sponge with a “handkerchief” drap of white chocolate (which we cut both on the 15th and at midnight to bring in Ajay’s birthday :) ….. yup I was a little tired to make another one … but then that’s what sharing is all about after all :) )

    The Cake

I think we had a nice evening, with easy conversation and Virgil accompanying the singing on the piano. (which incidently also landed him the accompanist role at Pri’s wedding)

We finally cleared up, chatted for a while and went to sleep at around 2 in the morning.

Thank you guys for being there. Love you.

Spent the 16th at Ajay’s place with his family.

Treated myself to a well deserved sleep in on Saturday. I had a routine appointment with my opthamologist late in the morning so headed to the city and back home in time for lunch. Had a hair cut and caught some sleep to fortify myself for the evening out.

It was Esther’s First Holy Communion mass and celebration in the evening. Although all the children usually receive it at the same time, Mark and Vanessa wanted to have it while they were down. Mass was at Our Lady of Salvation, Dadar. Fr. Francis celebrated mass which was the only part of the mass that was lively (: () and I wished he said something about the sacrament of Holy Communion, instead they had someone from the Prison Ministry share about their work. I felt it took away from the solemnity of the occassion but then it was a parish mass and so had to go along with the Sunday theme.

Headed for a small family celebration at the Ramee Guestline. Spent quite some time doing something I haven’t done in a long time – blow up a lot of balloons! Must say it was a great deal of fun though :) We played a couple of games and danced away. So there we were eating and drinking and making merry and suddenly we were hit with a stink that was so bad we had to move to the restaurant where we prooceeded to have even more fun playing housie – 2 prizes of which I won and 2 my Mum won after which they promptly disqualified us from playing any more :P Too late guys!

Came home and dropped off to sleep and woke up only they next afternoon, had lunch, did a spot of clearing and fell asleep again :) The gang was going out in the evening, so dropped in to wish Rixon a belated Happy Birthday and went for a walk. The next week was but a few hours away :(

  • Of Hard Rockers and Chinese Mummies

My fun weekend began from Thursday! I took the day off to go to Xavier’s for the feast mass of St. Francis Xavier. It has been some time since I’ve been for one of the college masses and so just made up my mind to go for it this year. Kevin obliged and gave me a lift in the morning. Met up with some old professors and a bunch of Aicufers – who continue to organise the preparations for the mass and conduction of the choir, though I must say I thought the choir master was a little too full of himself. Well ….. sorry if I thought that there was no need to play 4 instruments, conduct the choir and have a solo performance  while at the same time drown out the 40 strong choir! I really appreciated Rueben’s (liturgy co-ord) attempt to bring out the cultural diversity of India by making each prayer of the faithful in a different reginal language. The liturgy ended with the beautiful tribute Fr. Lawrie paid to Fr. Arun and Fr. Anthony (who took their final Jesuit vows at the mass) in the form of a movie showcasing the work they are involved in and a vocation promotion bit for the Jesuits. Guess who ended up being the mascot for the Jesuits…. Li’l Joel!

Rushed home as I had promised to meet Aunty Lyn and the gang at Bandra. Went on a brief shopping spree and treated myself to a pair of badly needed jeans and sandals :)

Caught a few zzzzzz before David, Daniel, Chetna and Michelle came over and we all headed to Hard Rock Cafe. We were lucky to get a table quickly. Had quite an entertaining evening :)

    (some pics from the evening)

Cafe Cofffee Day was next on our list for some cuppa. Since everyone was up to it, we walked home along the seaface.

Headed back to work on Friday. Came home to find a really bored group of cuzzies :( so we decided on trying our luck with tickets for a late night show of “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”.

    The Mummy

After a brief walk down sea face and quick dinner we picked up the boys from Dadar and headed to Suburbia. Ruth managed to get hold of the last 7 tickets ….. yipppeeee …… but they were front row seats …. boo hoo ……. which is not very nice usually …… but in Suburbia it was horrid :( To add insult to injury it was the first time in my movie watching history (and I’ve watched some not so good movies) I actually wanted to walk out at the interval. Headed home and hit the sack ….. it was going to be a long, full Satyrday. But more on that in the next post.
