Woke up this morning feeling unusually hungry. I guess it was just psychological, because I knew I would not be able to eat or drink anything till post 10. 30 a.m. I had to go to the Metropolis Clinic in Worli for my pre - employment medical examination. It was going to be the first time I would have a string of tests conducted on me one after the other on the same day! Picked up my photographs and walked to the clinic since it is 10 minutes from my place. The place it one of those fancier looking places where they have laboratories to run higher end tests also. Reached there to find Snehal A., Darshana S., and Prasun there as well. After filling in a couple of forms proceeded to get a syringe full of “Royal” blood drawn. I usually go faint at the sight of blood ….. but I decided to be brave and watch as the lab assistant drew the blood. It was actually cool. I was measured, weighed and directed to the blood pressure test. It was the first time I had my pressure taken. The doctor was very chatty and cheerful and said I reminded her of a cousin! By this time Ajay arrived. Introduced him to the group and he and Prasun immediately hit it off. Prasun was really excited to know that Ajay was going to SCMHRD - since he too belongs to the Symbiosis family. They then disappeared for some bonding while I went for the chest x-ray and Electrocardiogram. Was really tickled when they stuck a whole lot of electrodes on me and clamped me with thingys that looked like 2 pairs of pliers! We then went looking for some coffee to fortify ourselves. Ajay et moi decided to skip the coffee in lieu for some really good home made sorpotel (courtesy my grandma) Finally the ophthalmologist came along. He was one of those type of men with a highly affected accent. But he was nice and said that there was nothing much that could be done about the lazy eye problem I have and all was clear from his end. After some feedback form filling we headed home to tuck into some good food.
After some attempts to do some serious blog work (which failed miserably) , decided to have pizza for lunch so ordered in from Garcia’s Famous Pizza. We had the Oriental Fantasy and Teekha Chicken. However this time they let me down, I usually prefer these pizzas to Pizza’s Hut and Smoking Joe’s.
Then finally left for our ramble to town with Ruth. Thomas who is down on a holiday is going back and so follows the usual practice of piling him with gifts for the family back home. Braced ourselves to do some serious book shopping. Took an 89 and went straight for the Strand Exhibition. Wasn’t too impressed with the collection but did pick up a book for my cousin entitled “150 Great Experiments for Children”. Came across another exhibition and Ruth picked up some cookery books. Then headed for Colaba Causeway where we picked up some Tantra T shirts for the other cousins. (Yup i do have a lot of cousins- 6 on my Mum’s side and 11 on my Dad’s side) Ruth fell in love with some bracelets which she treated herself to. Ajay cant seem to accept the fact that women and jewelery DO go together. Then rushed back to Chimanlas- which it is this paper mart where i usually pick up my handmade paper supplies. Picked up some stuff for Lynette. Ajay needed some books for his SCMHRD holiday homework, so picked up some eternal favorites - The Alchemist, The Catcher in the Rye, The Old Man and The Sea (which was recommended by a very knowledgeable salesman) , The Kite Runner (which is my personal favorite) and in keeping with the management trend - The World is Flat. Bookzone profited some more from the Lobo family when we picked up Writings on Goa, Hitch hiker’s Guide to the Universe and The Company of Women.
We finally called it a day and headed home feeling mighty pleased with ourselves. Helped fix some dinner, tucked in and called it a day.
